Learning how the world of web3 works can be more challenging than transferring from Los Angeles to a school that has no gymnastics team. Trying to digest technical jargon that isn’t relatable or easy to understand is a last resort.

Pop culture will ultimately be what moves the needle toward mass adoption of web3, because it’s a fun way to bridge the communication gap between the technical and non-technical. Let’s dive into four web3 topics: the metaverse, DAOs, DeFi, and NFTs, as compared to the Bring It On (2000) universe.

Metaverse

The metaverse would be the best place to host Nationals because UCA rules do not exist in this realm. No physical world limitations apply. This means all stunts are a go; no getting points deducted for an illegal fly-over dismount. Spectators could cross-over easily from one stage to the other without noise carrying. Teams would have coordinated, customized uniforms as skins for their avatars, and all can breathe freely without copious amounts of aerosol hairspray polluting the air. The music would be crystal clear no matter where you sat in the audience, and regardless of how far away from the stage you were, you would always have an unobstructed view from your seat. I’m so ready to see the metaverse’s first front handspring, step out, round-off back handspring step out, round-off back handspring, full twisting layout.

DAOs

DAOs are essentially cheerocracies with a flattened hierarchy. The Rancho Carne Toros would’ve been much better off as a DAO, collectively making decisions toward a common goal: to win nationals. Fair and square! In seasons past, Big Red was the centralized power always having the final say and making decisions on others’ behalf. In RCT DAO, proposals would be voted on using $RCT tokens, and selecting core community members to leadership positions would be much fairer. Imagine using quadratic voting to pick a captain? DAOs can also cultivate an environment of like-minded community members, token-gating entry and requiring an application process. This would’ve made Toros tryouts a lot more seamless…Isn’t this the audition for Pippin??

DeFi

Maybe you’re just not boyfriend banking material. DeFi services use blockchain-enabled smart contracts to record transactions and transfer funds. With a squad wallet, Toros.eth would be able to easily pay competition entry fees and could fund their treasury with merch sales (including Cliff’s mix tapes), car wash fundraiser money, and sponsorship dollars from the Universal Cheerleading Association. Self-sovereignty requires a level of personal responsibility, so guard that seed phrase like it’s the spirit stick about to hit the floor. Putting all of your money on a centralized exchange is very similar to taking Aaron‘s advice to hire Sparky Polastri. It might seem like a good idea at the time, but you could get rugged at any given moment.

NFTs

With cheers minted on-chain as NFTs, the Clovers would have ownership over their intellectual property. Non-fungible tokens would be a great mechanism for the Clovers to authenticate and prove ownership of the IP that is rightfully theirs. By having an open edition NFT collection, an unlimited number of squads from around the country could use their cheers – with permission. If the Toros wanted to buy their cheers, the Clovers would receive creator royalties. The UCA could even airdrop Nationals’ winning team a commemorative NFT as a digital twin to a physical trophy. With the power of blockchain technology, the best team actually has an immutable, verifiable record that they won.
