How to Open a Wallet

A Guide from Crypto Witch Club

This is Part 2 of The Crypto Witch Club Card Minting 101 Series — How to open a wallet. In this part, you’ll learn how to open a MetaMask software wallet, keep your private keys safe, and transfer your crypto from an exchange to your wallet.

The Crypto Witch Club Card is the first NFT project from Crypto Witch Club — think of it as your passport to all things web3. As you participate in the Crypto Witch Club community, you’ll have the chance to claim limited-edition stickers to deck out your Club Card. Holders will also get first dibs on merch, future NFT drops, exclusive events, voting rights, AND be dropped every seasonal issue of our upcoming, onchain, web3 zine for as long as you hold the card. Read the roadmap here.

How to Open a Wallet: In part 2 of this series, we will open a MetaMask software wallet.

 From Your Phone

Step 1: Go to the App Store for iphone or Google Play Store for Andriod and search MetaMask. Ensure you select the correct app and download.

Step 2: Open the app on your phone. You will receive a welcome screen and an option to import using secret recovery phrase or create a new wallet. Select create a new wallet and agree to the terms of use. You’ll be asked to create a password and confirm it.

Step 3: Secure your wallet. You’ll be brought to a screen with instructions for how to save the 12-world secret recovery phrase you are about to receive. Read the instructions and tap the ‘start’ button.

Step 4: A black box will appear on your screen that reads ‘tap to reveal your secret recovery phrase’. Hit the ‘view’ button to reveal the secret phrase. Make sure to clearly write this seed phrase down! On the next screen, you will be asked to enter the secret phrase to confirm.

*Never share your private secret recovery phrase with anyone. Anyone who has this can access your funds and remove funds from your wallet.*

Step 5: Welcome to your new wallet! Your public wallet address will show in a blue bar at the top of the screen. This public address you can share with others to send and receive crypto.

Step 6: to send your cryptocurrency from your exchange to a public wallet, you’ll be using the public address of your MetaMask.

Important to know: MetaMask is only compatible with ERC-20 tokens — like Ethereum and Polygon. Sending non-ERC-20 tokens to your MetaMask will result in a loss of funds

Step 7: In this example, we’ll be using Coinbase to send the MATIC we purchased in Part 1 of this guide to our MetaMask Wallet. Log into your Coinbase account on your phone app. Tap ‘Pay on the lower menu. You’ll see the option to send or receive. Tap ‘send’.

Step 8: A new screen will pop up where you can select which cryptocurrency you’d like to transfer. You will select MATIC and use the buttons to select the amount of MATIC you would like to send. (If you purchased just enough for the Club Card + gas fees, you’ll want to tap the ‘max’ button to send the full amount. Tap ‘continue’.

Step 9: You’ll now be directed to a screen where you can copy + paste your public MetaMask wallet address in. (This is the wallet you are sending your MATIC to.) Ensure the address is 100% correct before tapping the ‘preview send’ button and completing.

Important to know: Depending on network traffic, it can take a few minutes to see your funds in your MetaMask.

From Your Desktop

Step 1: Go to https://metamask.io on your desktop and tap the download button. On the next page, select ‘Install Metamask for (Your Browser)’. We use Brave as our preferred web3 browser of choice.
